Articles by Albert Kienle

I wanted to share these articles with you. Albert Kienle is a member of my church and I through you might enjoy his opinions.

CARTOON CONTROVERSY(by Albert Kienle – used with permission)

I believe in freedom of speech and religious freedom and we should not allow threats of violence to censor these freedoms. Threats and intimidation do not justify a decision not to publish the cartoons. However I believe that respect for the deep beliefs of others and an intention not to offend do. No right is absolute and with a right comes the responsibility to exercise a right prudently. Self-censorship based on principle is a mark of civility.

In a society that claims to be respectful of diversity, freedom must include self-restraint and openness to understanding what is sacred to others. While freedom of speech may include offensive speech, freedom is not strengthened by slandering others.

The Christian faith profoundly shaped our Canadian culture and provided the very foundation for the affirmation of the equal dignity of all persons upon which freedom of religion, expression and conscience are rooted. We need a more mature liberty. ~ Albert Kienle

CARTOON CONTROVERSY 2(by Albert Kienle – used with permission)

A cartoon depicting Jesus giving oral sex to a pig and published in the University of Saskatchewan's weekly paper The Sheaf, has offended many, including university students. Other cartoons, movies and paintings depicting Jesus as married, a homosexual or tormented makes you wonder whether Muslims are over the top or Christians are too timid. If Christians were to take to violence over, say, the new DaVinci Code movie, we would be seen as crazy. But it is as heretical as The Last Temptation of Christ.

Paul Marshall, a scholar on the issue, says it is a myth that Islam prohibits visual portrayals of the prophet and details the places where portraits of Muhammad can be found across the Muslim world. No, the problem is rather the linking of the image of the prophet with violence. And that is the same problem I have with linking Jesus with gross immorality, making Him less than the sinless Saviour.

The media outlets that have refused to publish the Muhammad cartoons based on the argument of their respect for religion must be applauded but we must remind them of their stance if they air material that is offensive to Christians. ~Albert Kienle

Riley Armstrong Concert

I want to introduce you to a fantastic artist.
Perhaps you have already heard of and enjoy his music.

Jon & I really enjoyed this concert. We were pleased to hear a local band "The Finding" who warmed up the stage for Riley. "The Finding" is Brandon Carter, Scott Sims, Jon Maat and Sean Ward. I must say that I also appreciated the work of Devin Furgeson who was at the amplification controls.

Riley was solo that night, but you wouldn't know it! His dynamic personality, great stage skill and abilities made up for it all. In fact, he was his own 1 man band. I am not talking about tracks here people!

Anyway. Whether it was his fetish for creating crazy t-shirts or how much he looked like Bernard - he captured our hearts .

Check him out!

Stress Reducer

I received this helpful list from my sister this week. My family is currently under alot of stress as we have found out that my grandfather has stomach cancer, among other things. I am so thrilled that our God reveals Himself in the midst of our struggles.

enjoy.

WAYS TO REDUCE STRESS

1. Pray

2. Go to bed on time.

3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.

4. Say No to projects that won't fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health.

5. Delegate tasks to capable others.

6. Simplify and unclutter your life.

7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)

8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.

9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together.

10. Take one day at a time.

11. Separate worries from concerns. If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you do and let go of the anxiety. If you can't do anything about a situation, forget it.

12. Live within your budget; don't use credit cards for ordinary purchases.

13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.

14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut). This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.

15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.

16. Carry a Bible with you to read while waiting in line.

17. Get enough rest.

18. Eat right.

19. Get organized so everything has its place.

20. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life.

21. Write down thoughts and inspirations.

22. Every day, find time to be alone.

23. Having problems? Talk to God on the spot. Try to nip mall problems in the bud. Don't wait until it's time to go to bed to try and pray.

24. Make friends with Godly people.

25. Keep a folder of favourite scriptures on hand.

26. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good "Thank you Jesus."

27. Laugh.

28. Laugh some more!

29. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.

30. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).

31. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).

32. Sit on your ego.

33. Talk less; listen more.

34. Slow down.

35. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe.

36 . Every night before bed, think of one thing you're grateful for that you've never been grateful for before.

"If God is for us, who can be against us?"(Romans 8:31)

Early Morning

Good Morning!

I have had the wonderful opportunity to spend time with my sister in the past two days. She lives in Moose Jaw so I don't see her much. For those of you who know her she is getting married this summer at Cornerstone Church! So needless to say we spend the last two night going over wedding details, creating invitations and countless other things to do with weddings. It was really nice.

When you grow up and move out of your parents house and your siblings do the same it feels really good to have a sleepover every now and then. You get to laugh and enjoy each other.
That is my good thought for today!

Game Of Tag

I was tagged by Karina. I didn’t know what this meant… so I had to do some background research. I have discovered that someone (who thought they were smart/funny) decided to come up with a series of questions that required 7 answers… and then ‘tag’ 7 friends to do the same. So it’s kind of like a chain letter… with no bad luck threats at the end. I decided to do it because I 1)didn’t want to disapoint Karina and 2) enjoyed reading what others had written and thought you might too!
