Snow

Our church has a monthly craft night called Craft'n'Chat. I dragged my sister to it and this is what I got to create! Isn't it cute?

It just sits perfectly on the shelf in my office - and it helps me to feel a little bit less 'scroogie'. I've been telling my friends that I feel like scrooge this Christmas. I am not putting up a Christmas tree or any Christmas Decorations in my house- not one thing! My reasons are more practical than anything - but I have to admit - it sure doesn't feel like Christmas is coming! Last night I also got to lead out a few Christmas carol's for the ladies as an extra special surprise. I am sure that I am not the only one who gets these last minute opportunities. Christmas Carols always help it to feel a little more like Christmas. I realized last night how much I missed that 'Christmas Is Coming' feeling - so this morning I changed my radio station to 'lite 92 FM - Regina's official Christmas Station' and things are looking a little more cheery today.
I say 'Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!'

Husbands & Car Starters - Not Alway's The Same Thing!

I am amazed at the lengths we, as Canadians, go to in order to pretend that it is now winter. How many people do you know get fake tans in winter? Go to 7-11 for a Slurpee in winter? Wear Sandal's and Shorts in winter? I have to admit that I used to wear Sandals practically all winter in high school... anyone else wear their Berkinstocks in the snow?? How about BBQ in -36 degree weather??

Like I said - I thank God for Husbands!! My good husband Jon got bundled up to cook up some DELICIOUS ribs for supper tonight! Thank you sweetie! I think you know it was worth it too - there is just something about a BBQ that makes Ribs taste that much better, you know?

This was the view from my window at 8:35am!! In this weather I am sooooo thankful that I don't have to go out to start my car!! We have a remote starter that came with the car. Funny story actually - the people who sold us the car knew it had a remote starter... but thought that it didn't work the entire time they owned it! I think it's a gift from God because I've heard that remote car starter's for standards are VERY expensive - and there is NO WAY that Jon & I could afford something like that.

Anyone else find little surprises like that after they have bought something??

Jon's New Do!

Thanksgiving

I know - what a title!
Jon & I are heading to Brandon MB today to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family.
I really am excited because everyone is going to be there this year! AND My neice Sarah is being dedicated and I have been asked to be her Godmother - and I feel very priviledged that my brother and sister-in-law would ask me to do this.

It has been such a joy to get to know my brother better these past few years. Becomming a father suits him - and I find that we have more to talk about. He is 8 years older than me - and from an entirely different galaxy it seemed when I was growing up. Now that I am MUCH older - the age gap has lessened and I feel closer to him. That is probably what I am most Thankful for this year - that 'closeness' with him is back - I am getting to know him again! I only hope that this weekend can bring us even closer together by sharing family memories and being able to speak words of hope and life into him and his family.

I hope that each and every one of you has a happy and blessed Thanksgiving weekend!

Wonderful Weekend

Have you ever had a wonderful weekend?

Just think back to that weekend for a moment and remember what it was that made it so very wonderful. Jon & I celebrated our 4th anniversary this weekend.

Our weekend was wonderful because even though we stayed in the city we removed ourselves from our usual routine and made an effort to truly 'get away' from the things that can so easily distract us.

We stayed in the most gorgeous suite I have ever stayed in. There were two rooms. One was a separate living room and kitchenette - which came in really handy on our budget! The bedroom had a king size bed and jacuzzi tub!

It was the most relaxing and enjoyable time that I can remember having with Jon next to our honeymoon!

What a wonderful weekend!

To my love on our anniversary

My love, I can hardly believe that four years ago we pledged our love and our commitment to each other before God. It was the most beautiful moment of my life!

My love for you, thought it has grown and developed, will never change because I love you with all that I am. You complete me. I find out more and more each day just how perfect you are for me.

God has given me such an incredible gift through you, my husband!
My prayer is that our love will continue to grow stronger as we look together towards the path that God has for our lives.

I cannot wait to enter into this new chapter.
It is like warm summer's day waiting to be enjoyed!

Thank you for believing in me.
Thank you for loving me.
Thank you for understanding me.

Jon, I couldn't ask for anything more because you satisfy me in every way imaginable.
I love you!
Happy Anniversary

There are three things that last: faith, hope and love, and the greatest of these is love.
~ I Corinthians 13:13

Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.

A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.

Reality Shift

Ok - so I'm doing really good on my self made 'program' right... I have the incentive, the motivation and I'm seeing results. Then I got to anticipate those results.
It's funny how when you are not getting on the scale every morning it seems easy to lose the weight... Then I started to get excited about the fact that things were working, so I started to look for the results more regularly... but every morning my scale keeps telling me the same things!
For like 10 days I'm doing my program and my scale is just not co-operating. Not only that... but I found out that if I shift my heels to the outside of the scale I gain like 15 pounds! So! I decided it was time for a new scale!

Jon and I shopped around for a really good scale , because I wanted to know INSTANTLY when my program was paying off... so we ended up with a digital scale from Canadian Tire ($69.00 later) and proudly brought it home. Two things happened after we brought home! 1. I found a similar one a JYSK for $22... of course (so we returned the one from CT and bout the one from JYSK) and 2. I got on it and gained 25 pounds! I mean... I actually didn't physically gain 25 pounds.. but that just goes to show how messed up our old scale was. It's kind of funny actually... because Jon gained 10 pounds too! so.. I'm just trying to reassure myself today that my program is still working - and it doesn't matter what weight the scale reads right now... as long as it is going down.. I will still get to my final destination. I am still motivated! I will prevail!

Sunday Night In Regina

Sunday nights are the WORST part of my week. Sunday night is when I either have to watch Jon drive away from me or watch Jon get smaller in my rear-view mirror as I drive away from him. I know that tomorrow I will get on with my week and I will be fine, but right now let's just say that Sunday's are not fun.

As much as I miss Jon right now - there are some good things going on in my life. I am expecting to hear from my friend Sheila Falk (nee Epp) as she is probably about to have her first child any second, if she hadn't had it already! I get to see Lisa Loeppky(nee Laxdal) next weekend and meet the newest addition to her growing family. AND I now live here:
This house is beautiful. These pictures were taken before the renovation, but until I get a digital camera - you'll just have to trust me that it's beautiful!

It feels like I have a home again!

There have been some really good benefits to our separation this summer. First, I look forward to weekends unlike ever before! It's kind of fun to have a wild fling every now and then. We make the most of our time together - and I get that excited, butterflies in my stomach feeling when I think about him - and how blessed I am to be married to such a hottie. Second, our conversation revolves around the future, our hopes and dreams instead of the everyday run of the mill type stuff. AND - those little things that used to bug me - aren't nearly as important as spending every happy moment I can with him. Our marriage is stronger than it has every been. We have a renewed sense of God's purpose for our union. It's funny, because even though we knew that this time in Regina and Jon's getting his education was apart of God's plan for us... in the midst of it I almost forgot. With just one year left to go I am really starting to get excited. It's like a book that you can't put down. You just can't wait to finish the chapter you are on so that you can get to the next one. That is how I feel! I can't wait to start the next chapter of our life together. I cannot tell you where we will be living one year from now, anything could happen when he graduates. As much as I want to worry and fret about that - I simply can't let myself - because the confidence that God has a job for Jon and a home for our family is too strong! It doesn't matter where we live - because we will have each other. Who knows what else we will have a year from now. I hope that you will continue to check my blog - I know that it has been a little depressing to read this summer - but I also know that this next year is going to be a year of God's fulfilled promises. I really enjoy reading your blog's and getting acquainted with your new family members and God's faithfulness in your life. I can only hope that this blog will give you a glimpse into our life and encourage you. May the words of these pages shout "He is faithful."

Friends

I just wanted to post and let you all know that I have a home again!
- I am living with my dear friend Andrea.

I don't know if I told any of you.. but the reason I got myself into the situation in my previous post was because Jon & I needed to cut down on our monthly expenses.

We started looking for a cheaper place to live.

In the middle of that search we went out for breakfast with our good friends Darren & Andrea. We told them about our plans to move and they proceeded to tell us that there were some big changes going on with them too. Andrea would be going to school in Calgary for the next year starting in September. We made arrangements to go and see their new house after breakfast and by the time we arrived at their house they had a proposition for us.

They asked Jon & I if we would like to move into their house and live with Darren for the time that Andrea was away. We said yes, and really felt that God had his hand in the situation.

Financially it was perfect for us and we knew it would ease their situation as well. We know without a doubt that his hand was there now because of the changes that have happened in both of our lives.

Due to a turn of events - Darren will now be living in Calgary as well for the next year or so, and Jon & I have a house to live in! God is so amazing! We did have to get a roommate... his name is Devon and he is a really cool guy whom we respect and love dearly!

With the plan to move into their house set for September - Jon moved to Saskatoon for the summer to work for the CFIA. That left me alone in our apartment, and left both of us wondering if there was a way for us to save money in the summer months. At the time we thought it would be a great idea for me to move in with a friend for a couple of months so that we could catch up on our bills.

That unfortunately, as you read below, didn't turn out so well!

So... I am living now with a friend named Andrea, in the home that Jon & I will be living in come fall! It was never the plan for me to move in this early, but it sure feels good to have a home again!

I am still left with questions though...
should I have just stayed where I was in our apartment?
was I worrying about money too much - instead of letting God provide?
was it MY plan to move in with a friend?
what really happened?
did I show Christ in my actions?
will we ever be friends again? ...

Despite my questions, God has given me assurance regarding that situation
- and I know that it was a life lesson well learned.
I also know that Jon & I will look back on this story in the future and draw a lot of wisdom from it. God is present in our life. We see His hand & we know what He has called us to - & we rejoice in it!

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28

you have half an hour...

You know, I never thought that I would be in the position to hear someone say the words to me "You have half an hour to get out or I'll call the cops!". I mean you try and live you life in such a way that you don't end up in those situations right?!? Well two weeks ago today those words were spoken to me, in front of my sister Ann, in the house where I had been living. The person who said those words to me will remain nameless. The purpose of this blog is not to place blame, but to give you a glimpse into my life these days. So my half hour was up and I am standing on the street with all of my belongings stuffed into our cars and it hit me. I no longer had a home.
In the midst of that extreme situation I realized then, as I realize now
- God is and has always been there to take care of me.

Jon & I wrote a song together a few years ago and it has resounded in my heart through this whole situation. It's called 'You Take Care Of Me', and here are the lyrics:

You Take Care Of Me
©Jon Tieszen 2002

his eyes look to the east, he knows his love will meet him there
the band moves on and he stands alone, he’ll see the best to come

Chorus
and I see where I am now
it’s clear somehow
you take care of me
and as the years go by
the past will cry
you take care of me

he roused from work to take the call she said we now have a home
we look to see what’s yet to come, I pace my mind to ease

Chorus
and I see where I am now
it’s clear somehow
you take care of me
and as the years go by
the past will cry
you take care of me

I’m trying my best - I do what I can
but when it’s time you will show me the way

Chorus
and I see where I am now
it’s clear somehow
you take care of me
and as the years go by
the past will cry
you take care of me

Apart

Jon left for work last night. He will be working in Sasktoon this summer & I will be working in Regina.
We took this picture on our balcony before he left.
It turned out great!

**

You'd never know he left just 5 minutes after this picture was taken. It doesn't really feel like he's gone yet. Maybe that is because he'll be home tomorrow for the weekend! For the past 3 years Jon has been leaving for school before I wake up and coming home just in time for me to go to bed... so the only real change is that he's not within arms reach at night. I miss the kisses that he would give me while I slept before he would leave our apartment in the mornings. You know the little ones that they like to plant everywhere but your mouth! I'd wake up just enough to feel his love for me. I think it is so wonderful that God gives us precious little memories like these to keep us connected when we're apart!

Articles by Albert Kienle

I wanted to share these articles with you. Albert Kienle is a member of my church and I through you might enjoy his opinions.

CARTOON CONTROVERSY(by Albert Kienle – used with permission)

I believe in freedom of speech and religious freedom and we should not allow threats of violence to censor these freedoms. Threats and intimidation do not justify a decision not to publish the cartoons. However I believe that respect for the deep beliefs of others and an intention not to offend do. No right is absolute and with a right comes the responsibility to exercise a right prudently. Self-censorship based on principle is a mark of civility.

In a society that claims to be respectful of diversity, freedom must include self-restraint and openness to understanding what is sacred to others. While freedom of speech may include offensive speech, freedom is not strengthened by slandering others.

The Christian faith profoundly shaped our Canadian culture and provided the very foundation for the affirmation of the equal dignity of all persons upon which freedom of religion, expression and conscience are rooted. We need a more mature liberty. ~ Albert Kienle

CARTOON CONTROVERSY 2(by Albert Kienle – used with permission)

A cartoon depicting Jesus giving oral sex to a pig and published in the University of Saskatchewan's weekly paper The Sheaf, has offended many, including university students. Other cartoons, movies and paintings depicting Jesus as married, a homosexual or tormented makes you wonder whether Muslims are over the top or Christians are too timid. If Christians were to take to violence over, say, the new DaVinci Code movie, we would be seen as crazy. But it is as heretical as The Last Temptation of Christ.

Paul Marshall, a scholar on the issue, says it is a myth that Islam prohibits visual portrayals of the prophet and details the places where portraits of Muhammad can be found across the Muslim world. No, the problem is rather the linking of the image of the prophet with violence. And that is the same problem I have with linking Jesus with gross immorality, making Him less than the sinless Saviour.

The media outlets that have refused to publish the Muhammad cartoons based on the argument of their respect for religion must be applauded but we must remind them of their stance if they air material that is offensive to Christians. ~Albert Kienle

Riley Armstrong Concert

I want to introduce you to a fantastic artist.
Perhaps you have already heard of and enjoy his music.

Jon & I really enjoyed this concert. We were pleased to hear a local band "The Finding" who warmed up the stage for Riley. "The Finding" is Brandon Carter, Scott Sims, Jon Maat and Sean Ward. I must say that I also appreciated the work of Devin Furgeson who was at the amplification controls.

Riley was solo that night, but you wouldn't know it! His dynamic personality, great stage skill and abilities made up for it all. In fact, he was his own 1 man band. I am not talking about tracks here people!

Anyway. Whether it was his fetish for creating crazy t-shirts or how much he looked like Bernard - he captured our hearts .

Check him out!

Stress Reducer

I received this helpful list from my sister this week. My family is currently under alot of stress as we have found out that my grandfather has stomach cancer, among other things. I am so thrilled that our God reveals Himself in the midst of our struggles.

enjoy.

WAYS TO REDUCE STRESS

1. Pray

2. Go to bed on time.

3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.

4. Say No to projects that won't fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health.

5. Delegate tasks to capable others.

6. Simplify and unclutter your life.

7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)

8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.

9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together.

10. Take one day at a time.

11. Separate worries from concerns. If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you do and let go of the anxiety. If you can't do anything about a situation, forget it.

12. Live within your budget; don't use credit cards for ordinary purchases.

13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.

14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut). This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.

15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.

16. Carry a Bible with you to read while waiting in line.

17. Get enough rest.

18. Eat right.

19. Get organized so everything has its place.

20. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life.

21. Write down thoughts and inspirations.

22. Every day, find time to be alone.

23. Having problems? Talk to God on the spot. Try to nip mall problems in the bud. Don't wait until it's time to go to bed to try and pray.

24. Make friends with Godly people.

25. Keep a folder of favourite scriptures on hand.

26. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good "Thank you Jesus."

27. Laugh.

28. Laugh some more!

29. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.

30. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).

31. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).

32. Sit on your ego.

33. Talk less; listen more.

34. Slow down.

35. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe.

36 . Every night before bed, think of one thing you're grateful for that you've never been grateful for before.

"If God is for us, who can be against us?"(Romans 8:31)

Early Morning

Good Morning!

I have had the wonderful opportunity to spend time with my sister in the past two days. She lives in Moose Jaw so I don't see her much. For those of you who know her she is getting married this summer at Cornerstone Church! So needless to say we spend the last two night going over wedding details, creating invitations and countless other things to do with weddings. It was really nice.

When you grow up and move out of your parents house and your siblings do the same it feels really good to have a sleepover every now and then. You get to laugh and enjoy each other.
That is my good thought for today!

Game Of Tag

I was tagged by Karina. I didn’t know what this meant… so I had to do some background research. I have discovered that someone (who thought they were smart/funny) decided to come up with a series of questions that required 7 answers… and then ‘tag’ 7 friends to do the same. So it’s kind of like a chain letter… with no bad luck threats at the end.
